Main Problem and Motivation
The main problem addressed by the project is the adaptation challenges faced by adult immigrants from different cultures when settling in European countries. During this process, immigrants are torn between losing their cultural values out of fear of assimilation and resisting integration.The project partners’ experiences have shown that government policies alone are not sufficient to overcome barriers to immigrant integration; therefore, it was decided that transnational cooperation between civil society organizations was necessary.
The CISCO project aims to create a more inclusive and united society by promoting understanding, cooperation, and social cohesion among diverse cultural groups. One of the main objectives is to create an environment where immigrants can preserve and express their cultural identities without fear of discrimination.The project aims to find solutions to this common European problem through transnational cooperation in the field of adult education.
Our Story
This project is based on a successful previous “Cultural Integration” project conducted jointly by the founding partners, organizations in Denmark and Türkiye, between 2010 and 2012.The successful results of the previous project, which enabled immigrants to present their values in the society they live in and fostered mutual learning and social cohesion, led to the decision to develop a new joint project.We saw figures representing different paths (cultures) standing at a point of convergence, but obstacles standing in their way symbolizing the dilemmas of “integration challenges” and “preserving cultural identity.” We wanted civil society to play a role as a bridge that unites them.This end, we set out once again to facilitate access to information.We aimed to contribute to integration with the guides and studies we prepared.This approach, we aimed to form the basis of the cultural mosaic model, also known as cultural pluralism, which advocates the protection of cultural rights.
